New Years Eve is the top party of the year for a lot of adults. It is only reaonable that teens and tweens want to get in on the action. The trick to a successful New Years Eve party is to strike a balance that will make the teens and tweens happy and help the adults feel secure. This article may help you do just that.

Talk to your teen

As an parent, it's up to you to steer the conversation toward safe fun and to set boundaries. When planning a New Years Eve party it is important to talk with your teen or tween. Find out what he or she may want to do. This will give you both lots of ideas to work with.

The two (or more) of you should decide on a venue. A small group of teens may do well to have a New Years Eve party in a private home. If the group is going to be large it may be helpful to talk with a church or community center.

One of your New Years Eve party ideas for teens and tweens may be to host a community dance. Be sure to line up plenty of adult volunteers ahead of time. If the party is big enough the police department and community leaders may want to help.

Teens live for music and so do tweens. The more selections that you have the better the party. Invite the youth to bring CDs to the New Years Eve party. Put one or two of the kids in charge of being the DJ of the night. You can even get a banner, special hat or ribbon for the DJ. Just be sure that the CDs are clearly labeled so that they can go home with the right person.

One fun idea for a New Years Eve party is for teens to bring board games. They can play a quick round while waiting for the televised parties to get underway.

Noisemakers and hats

Have a supply of paper hats, kazoos and noisemakers to help ring in the New Year. An alternative idea is to have the teens and tweens bring their own. They can compete for bragging rights to see who has the most outlandish hat.

Some teens and tweens enjoy dressing in costumes but not all. Talking with your youth can help you decide if this is for your group or not. Guidelines for costumes on New Years Eve party may need to be set.

Popcorn, pizza rolls, buffalo wings and other finger foods are in demand as New Years Eve party food. Have plenty of munchies on hand. When kids get hungry they get grumpy. That's when even magic starts to fade with even the best parties.

Let them hang out

Many New Years Eve parties for teens and tweens will revolve around talking, laughting and text messaging. Sometimes the best parties won't open the board games. It's ok to let the kids hang out with supervision. Just have those board games nearby in case they are needed.

Most of all relax. Take time to enjoy being with your teen or tween and friends at the New Years Eve party. Doing so will put everyone well on their way toward having a happy New Year.
